✧ We set out in an army from Madinah toward this east. He said: In the army was ʿAbdullah b. Ṣayyād, and no one would travel alongside him, accompany him, eat with him, or drink with him, and they called him the Dajjal. While I was one day encamped at my station, ʿAbdullah b. Ṣayyād saw me sitting, so he came and sat beside me and said: “O Abū Saʿīd, do you not see what the people are doing to me? No one travels alongside me, no one accompanies me, no one drinks with me, no one eats with me, and they call me the Dajjal. You know, O Abū Saʿīd, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘The Dajjal will not enter Madinah,’ and I was born in Madinah. And I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The Dajjal will have no offspring,’ and children have been born to me. By Allah, I have considered, because of what these people do to me, taking a rope, secluding myself, putting it around my neck, and strangling myself so as to find relief from these people. By Allah, I am not the Dajjal, but by Allah, if you wished, I would tell you his name, his father’s name, his mother’s name, and the name of the village from which he will emerge.”
