✧ Ali, while he was in Yemen, sent to the Prophet ﷺ a small piece of gold in its dust. He divided it among Al-Aqra' b. Habis al-Hanzali, then one of Banu Mujashi', and Uyaynah b. Badr al-Fazari, and Alqamah b. Ulathah al-Amiri, then one of Banu Kilab, and Zayd al-Khayr al-Ta'i, then one of Banu Nabhan. He said: The Quraysh and the Ansar became angry. They said: He gives to the nobles of the people of Najd and leaves us? He said: I am only trying to win their hearts. He said: Then a man with sunken eyes, protruding forehead, thick beard, prominent cheekbones, and shaved head came forward. He said: He said: O Muhammad, fear Allah. He said: Who would obey Allah if I disobeyed Him? Does He entrust me with the people of the earth and you do not entrust me? He said: A man among the people asked the Prophet ﷺ to kill him, I think it was Khalid b. al-Walid, but he prevented him. When he turned away, he said: From the offspring of this one there will be a people who recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass out of Islam as the arrow passes through the game. They will kill the people of Islam and leave the people of idols. If I should reach them, I will surely kill them as the killing of Ad.
