✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ dispatched an expedition, and I was among them. We came upon a village and asked its people for food, but they refused to give us anything. Then a man from the village came to us and said: “O assembly of Arabs, is there among you a man who can recite incantations (ruqyah)?” Abu Said said: I said: “What is the matter?” He said: “The chief of the village is dying.” So we went with him, and I recited the Opening of the Book (Surah al-Fatihah) over him, repeating it several times, and he recovered. Then he sent us food and sheep to be driven. My companions said: “The Prophet ﷺ did not give us any instruction about this; we will not take anything until we come to the Prophet ﷺ.” So we drove the sheep until we came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what happened. He said: “Eat, and feed us with you. And what made you know that it was a ruqyah?” I said: “It was inspired into my heart.”
