حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ

أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَدَّمَ الْخُطْبَةَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ مَرْوَانُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا مَرْوَانُ خَالَفْتَ السُّنَّةَ. قَالَ: تُرِكَ مَا هُنَاكَ يَا أَبَا فُلَانٍ، فَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ: أَمَّا هَذَا فَقَدْ قَضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ. سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ رَأَى مِنْكُمْ مُنْكَرًا فَلْيُغَيِّرْهُ بِيَدِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِلِسَانِهِ، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِقَلْبِهِ، وَذَلِكَ أَضْعَفُ الْإِيمَانِ

Translation

✧ The first to put the sermon before the prayer was Marwan. A man stood up and said: “O Marwan, you have contradicted the Sunnah.” He said: “Leave that aside, O Abu So-and-so.” Abu Saʿid said: “As for this man, he has fulfilled his duty. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘Whoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart—and that is the weakest of faith.’”
