machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd and Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "There is no Muslim who is afflicted by illness, fatigue, worry, grief or harm, but Allah, Mighty and Majestic, expiates some of his sins by it." He said: It is narrated by Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ; Zuhayr b. Muḥammad, al-Walīd b. Kathīr and Usāmah b. Zayd narrated it from him, and there is disagreement about it from him. Ibn Wahb narrated it from Usāmah, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. Ḥalḥalah, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ. Abū Usāmah narrated it from Usāmah b. Zayd, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ, without mentioning Ibn Ḥalḥalah in the chain, and that is the correct version from Usāmah. Ibn Isḥāq also narrated it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Yazīd b. Zurayʿ narrated it from Ibn Isḥāq, from Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd and Abū Hurayrah. Ibn ʿUlayyah contradicted him and narrated it from Ibn Isḥāq as a statement stopping at the Companion (mawqūf), making it from Abū Saʿīd alone. Wahb b. Kaysān narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from the two of them, as mawqūf, and that is the correct version.
