حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ وَدَّاكٍ وَقَالَ حَجَّاجٌ

لَا أَشْرَبُ نَبِيذًا بَعْدَمَا سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ يَقُولُ: أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِرَجُلٍ نَشْوَانَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَمْ أَشْرَبْ خَمْرًا، إِنَّمَا شَرِبْتُ زَبِيبًا وَتَمْرًا فِي دُبَّاءَةٍ. قَالَ: فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَنُهِزَ بِالْأَيْدِي، وَخُفِقَ بِالنِّعَالِ. وَنَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ، وَنَهَى عَنِ الزَّبِيبِ وَالتَّمْرِ، يَعْنِي أَنْ يُخْلَطَا

Translation

✧ I will not drink nabīdh after hearing Abū Saʿīd say: A drunken man was brought to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: “I did not drink wine; I only drank raisins and dates in a gourd.” He said: So he ordered him, and he was shoved with hands and beaten with sandals. And he forbade gourds, and he forbade raisins and dates, meaning that they be mixed.
