حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

أَنَا أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ، مَنْ تَرَكَ دَيْنًا أَوْ ضَيَاعًا فَإِلَيَّ، وَلَا ضَيَاعَ عَلَيْهِ فَلْيُدْعَ لَهُ، وَأَنَا وَلِيُّهُ، وَمَنْ تَرَكَ مَالًا فَلِلْعَصَبَةِ مَنْ كَانَ.

✧ I am closer to the believer than his own self. Whoever leaves behind a debt or dependents, they come to me—and no dependent is lost on him, so let supplication be made for him, and I am his guardian. And whoever leaves behind wealth, it belongs to the heirs, whoever they may be.
