حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحٌ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ
نَهَى عَنِ الْوِصَالِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ: لَسْتُمْ مِثْلِي، إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي، فَلَمَّا أَبَوْا أَنْ يَنْتَهُوا عَنِ الْوِصَالِ وَاصَلَ بِهِمْ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ رُئِيَ الْهِلَالُ فَقَالَ: لَوْ تَأَخَّرَ لَزِدْتُكُمْ. كَالْمُنَكِّلِ.

✧ He forbade continuous fasting. A man among the Muslims said: But you fast continuously. He said: You are not like me; I spend the night while my Lord feeds me and gives me drink. When they refused to stop continuous fasting, he fasted continuously with them for a day, then another day, then the new moon was sighted. He said: If it had been delayed, I would have made you fast more—as if to discipline them.
