✧ Regarding the verse: 'O you who believe, do not be like those who hurt Musa, and God cleared him of what they said'—he said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'Musa was a shy and modest man who would hardly be seen with any of his skin exposed out of shyness. Some of the Children of Israel hurt him, saying: "He only covers himself in this way because of some defect in his skin, either leprosy or a scrotal hernia or some other affliction." God, Mighty and Majestic, wanted to clear him of what they said. One day Musa was alone and placed his garment on a rock and then bathed. When he finished, he came to his garment to take it, but the rock sped away with his garment. Musa took his staff and pursued the rock, saying: "My garment, O rock! My garment, O rock!" until he came upon a group of the Children of Israel. They saw him naked, and he was the most beautiful of men in form, and God cleared him of what they were saying about him. The rock stopped, and he took his garment and began striking the rock with his staff. By God, there are still marks from his striking on the rock—three or four or five dents.'
