حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ عَنْ هَمَّامٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَعَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ الْمَعْنَى عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ نَهِيكٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ

أُمْطِرَ عَلَى أَيُّوبَ جَرَادٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ فَرَاشٌ، فَجَعَلَ يَلْتَقِطُهُ فَقَالَ: يَا أَيُّوبُ أَلَمْ أُوَسِّعْ عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ وَمَنْ يَشْبَعُ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ أَوْ قَالَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ: قَالَ: بَلَى وَلَكِنْ لَا غِنَى بِي عَنْ فَضْلِكَ.

✧ Locusts of gold were rained upon Ayyub — and 'Abd al-Samad said: moths of gold — and he began to gather them. He said: 'O Ayyub, have I not given you abundance?' He said: 'O Lord, who can be satisfied with Your mercy?' or he said: 'with Your bounty?' 'Abd al-Samad said: He said: 'Yes, but I am never free of need for Your bounty.'
