حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ مَوْلَى أُمِّ صَفِيَّةَ وَقَالَ يَعْقُوبُ صُبَيَّةَ وَهُوَ الصَّوَابُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ، وَلَأَخَّرْتُ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلِ، فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا مَضَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ هَبَطَ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا إِلَى طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ يَقُولُ قَائِلٌ: أَلَا دَاعٍ يُجَابُ ؟ أَلَا سَائِلٌ يُعْطَهْ ؟ أَلَا مُذْنِبٌ يَسْتَغْفِرُ فَيُغْفَرُ لَهُ.

✧ Were it not that I would burden my community, I would command them to use the toothstick at every prayer, and I would delay the last night prayer until the first third of the night. For when the first third of the night passes, He descends to the lowest heaven until dawn rises, saying: 'Is there any supplicant who will be answered? Is there any asker who will be given? Is there any sinner who seeks forgiveness and will be forgiven?'"
