حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ
وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي أُقَاتِلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَأُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ ثُمَّ أُحْيَا ثُمَّ أُقْتَلَ، وَلَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا تَخَلَّفْتُ خَلْفَ سَرِيَّةٍ تَخْرُجُ أَوْ تَغْزُو فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَلَكِنْ لَا أَجِدُ سَعَةً فَأَحْمِلَهُمْ، وَلَا يَجِدُونَ سَعَةً فَيَتْبَعُونِي، وَلَا تَطِيبُ أَنْفُسُهُمْ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّفُوا بَعْدِي أَوْ يَقْعُدُوا بَعْدِي

✧ By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, I wish that I could fight in the path of God and be killed, then be brought to life, then be killed, then be brought to life, then be killed, then be brought to life, then be killed. Were it not that I would cause hardship to the believers, I would not stay behind from any raiding party that goes out or attacks in the path of God. But I do not find ample means to carry them, and they do not find ample means to follow me, and they are not pleased to stay behind after me or to sit after me.
