Translation

✧ A man died and left a son and a mawla of his. He entrusted his son to his mawla, who spared no effort until he matured and he married him off. Then he said to him, "Equip me to seek knowledge." So he equipped him, and he came to a scholar and asked him. The scholar said, "When you want to leave, tell me so I can teach you." He said, "My departure has come, so teach me." He said, "Fear Allah, be patient, and do not be hasty." Al-Hasan said, "In this is all good." He came and could hardly forget them, for they were only three. When he came to his family, he dismounted from his camel. When he entered the house, he saw a man sleeping turned away from the woman, and his wife was asleep. He said, "By Allah, I do not want to wait for this." He returned to his camel. When he wanted to take the sword, he said, "Fear Allah, be patient, and do not be hasty." So he returned. When he stood at his head, he said, "I will not wait for this at all." He returned to his camel. When he wanted to take his sword, he remembered, so he went back to him. When he stood at his head, the man woke up. When he saw him, he jumped to him, embraced him, kissed him, and asked him, "What did you attain after me?" He said, "By Allah, I attained after you much good. By Allah, after you I attained that I walked tonight between the sword and your head three times, and what I attained of knowledge restrained me from killing you."
