حَدَّثَنَا فَرْوَةُ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَغْرَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ
عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَحَدَّثَ نَفْسَهُ ثُمَّ انْتَبَهَ فَقَالَ لاَ حِلْمَ إِلاَّ تَجْرِبَةٌ يُعِيدُهَا ثَلاثًا
Translation
✧ From his father, who said: "I was sitting with Muʿāwiya, and he was talking to himself, then he came to and said: 'There is no forbearance except through experience'—he repeated it three times."
