Translation

✧ Three men of Banu Sa'd narrated to me, each reporting from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Sa'd to visit him in Makkah. He wept, so he asked, "What makes you weep?" He replied, "I fear that I will die in the land from which I emigrated, as Sa'd died." He said, "O Allah, heal Sa'd," three times. Then he said, "I have much wealth, and only my daughter will inherit from me. Should I bequeath all my wealth?" He said, "No." He said, "Then two-thirds?" He said, "No." He said, "Then half?" He said, "No." He said, "Then a third?" He said, "A third, and a third is much. Your charity from your wealth is charity, and your spending on your family is charity, and what your wife eats from your food is charity for you. If you leave your family in good condition—or he said, in a good life—that is better than leaving them asking people for help." And he gestured with his hand.
