Cheerfulness towards people

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَالِمٍ الأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ هُوَ ابْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الزُّبَيْدِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ جَابِرٍ وَهُوَ يَحْيَى بْنُ جَابِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ كَلاَمًا نَفَعَنِي اللَّهُ بِهِ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أَوْ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّكَ إِذَا اتَّبَعْتَ الرِّيبَةَ فِي النَّاسِ أَفْسَدْتَهُمْ فَإِنِّي لاَ أَتَّبِعُ الرِّيبَةَ فِيهِمْ فَأُفْسِدَهُمْ
Translation
✧ I heard from the Prophet ﷺ words by which Allah benefited me. I heard him say, or he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'If you follow suspicion among people, you will corrupt them. I do not follow suspicion among them, lest I corrupt them.'
