حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ:

تَحَاجَّتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ، فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ: أُوثِرْتُ بِالْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ وَالْمُتَجَبِّرِينَ، وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ: فَمَا لِيَ لَا يَدْخُلُنِي إِلَّا ضُعَفَاءُ النَّاسِ وَسُقَّاطُهُمْ وَعُجَّزُهُمْ ؟ فَقَالَ اللهُ لِلْجَنَّةِ: إِنَّمَا أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي أَرْحَمُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ، وَقَالَ لِلنَّارِ: إِنَّمَا أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُعَذِّبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ، وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا

Translation

✧ Paradise and the Fire disputed. The Fire said, 'I have been favored with the arrogant and the tyrants.' Paradise said, 'What is wrong with me that only the weak, the lowly, and the incapable among people enter me?' Allah said to Paradise, 'You are only My mercy; I show mercy through you to whomever I will.' And He said to the Fire, 'You are only My punishment; I punish through you whomever I will. And each of you will have its fill.'
