حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَبَّرَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ مَكَثَ هُنَيَّةً قَبْلَ [ أَنْ ] يَقْرَأَ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا تَقُولُ فِي سَكْتَتِكَ هَذِهِ بَيْنَ التَّكْبِيرِ وَالْقِرَاءَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ، كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ، اللَّهُمَّ نَقِّنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ، كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْسِلْنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ بِالثَّلْجِ وَالْمَاءِ وَالْبَرَدِ

✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ said the takbir for prayer, he would pause briefly before reciting. I said to him: May my father and mother be your ransom, O Messenger of God, what do you say in this pause of yours between the takbir and the recitation? He said: O God, put between me and my sins a distance as You have put between the east and the west. O God, purify me from my sins as the white garment is purified from dirt. O God, wash me from my sins with snow, water, and hail.
