✧ We used to refrain from seeking forgiveness for those who commit major sins, until we heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “God does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, but He forgives what is less than that to whom He wills.” He said: “I have reserved my supplication as intercession for the major sinners of my community.” He said: “So we refrained from much of what was in our hearts, then afterwards we spoke and hoped.”

machine translationNo one narrates this from Ayyūb with this chain except Ḥarb b. Surayj, and he does not have many hadiths. It is as though his hadiths are rare reports (gharāʾib) and solitary narrations (afrād), and I hope that there is no harm in him (lā baʾs bihi).
