✧ He was standing praying in the mosque while Ibn Umar was facing him, leaning his back against the qibla of the mosque. When Wasi' finished, he turned from his left toward Ibn Umar and sat with him. Ibn Umar said to him: “What prevents you from turning to your right?” He said: “Nothing, except that I saw you and turned to you.” He said: “You have done well. Some people say: If you are praying and finish, then turn to your right.” Ibn Umar said: “If you are praying and finish, then turn, if you wish, to your right, and if you wish, to your left.” Ibn Umar said: “Other people say: When one sits to relieve himself, let him not face the qibla or Bayt al-Maqdis. One day I climbed onto our house and saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ relieving himself—Abu Yala was uncertain—facing Bayt al-Maqdis.”
