✧ He heard a man from the people of Syria asking Abdullah b. Umar about performing umrah and then hajj as a mutamatti'. Abdullah said: 'It is permissible.' The Syrian said: 'But your father forbade it.' Abdullah said: 'Tell me, if my father forbade it while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did it, do you follow my father's command or the Messenger of Allah's command?' The Syrian said: 'Rather the Messenger of Allah's command.' So he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did it.'

machine translationThe narration of Ibn ʿUmar concerning tamattuʿ cannot be relied upon, for two reasons. One of them is that his statement is inconsistent (muḍṭarib): Bakr b. ʿAbdullāh narrated from him that he said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pronounced the talbiyah for Hajj alone.
