وَعَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ:

قَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيُّ الذَّنْبِ أَكْبَرُ عِنْدَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْ تَدْعُوَ لِلهِ نِدًّا وَهُوَ خَلَقَكَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟ قَالَ: ثُمَّ أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ، قَالَ: فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَصْدِيقَهَا: وَالَّذِينَ لا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ وَلا يَقْتُلُونَ النَّفْسَ الَّتِي حَرَّمَ اللهُ إِلا بِالْحَقِّ الْآيَةَ

Translation

✧ A man said: “O Messenger of God, which sin is greatest in the sight of God?” He said: “That you set up a rival to God when He created you.” He said: “Then which?” He said: “Then that you commit adultery with your neighbor’s wife.” He said: Then God sent down confirmation of it: “And those who do not invoke with God another deity or kill the soul which God has forbidden except by right…” [Q 25:68] the verse.
