وَعَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ:

بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ لَيْلَةَ عَرَفَةَ، إِذْ سَمِعْنَا حِسَّ الْحَيَّةِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اقْتُلُوهَا، فَدَخَلَتْ فِي شَقِّ جُحْرٍ، فَأُتِيَ بِسَعَفَةٍ فَأَضْرَمَ فِيهَا نَارٌ، ثُمَّ إِنَّا قَلَعْنَا بَعْضَ الْجُحْرِ، فَلَمْ نَجِدْهَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: دَعُوهَا، فَقَدْ وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْ، كَمَا وَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا

Translation

✧ While we were in the Mosque of al-Khayf on the night of 'Arafah, we heard the sound of a snake. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Kill it. It entered a crevice of a burrow, so a palm stalk was brought and set ablaze with fire in it. Then we removed part of the burrow but did not find it. The Prophet ﷺ said: Leave it, for Allah protected it from your evil just as He protected you from its evil.
