حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ فِطْرٍ، عَنْ مُنْذِرٍ أَبِي يَعْلَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ الْحَنَفِيَّةِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ

أَنَّهُ اسْتَأْذَنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي إِنْ وُلِدَ لَهُ بَعْدَهُ وَلَدٌ أَيُسَمِّيهِ بِاسْمِهِ، وَيَكْنِيهِ بِكُنْيَتِهِ ؟ قَالَ: فَكَانَتْ رُخْصَةً مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ اسْمَهُ مُحَمَّدٌ، وَكُنْيَتَهُ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ

Translation

✧ He asked permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ whether, if a child were born to him after his death, he might name him with his name and give him his kunya? He said: So it was a concession from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: His name was Muhammad and his kunya was Abu al-Qasim.
