حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرٌو، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ:

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: قُلْ هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابًا مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ. أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعًا وَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ، قَالَ: هَذَا أَهْوَنُ أَوْ هَذَا أَيْسَرُ

Translation

✧ When it was revealed: “Say: He is the One able to send upon you punishment from above you or from beneath your feet,” the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “I seek refuge in Your countenance.” “Or to confound you into factions and make you taste the violence of one another,” he said: “This is lighter” or “this is easier.”
