✧ I and a companion of mine differed regarding the hantam (jar). We came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri and said to him: 'Narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ regarding the hantam?' He said: 'If you say that, then indeed sometimes during the era of the Messenger of God ﷺ some of us would be present with him and hear from him, while some of us would be occupied with property and would come after the Messenger of God ﷺ had risen, and he would say: "What did he say?" So we would inform him of what the Messenger of God ﷺ said. And indeed one day a drinker was brought, and he was struck with hands and beaten with sandals. He said: "O Messenger of God, by God, I did not drink wine." He said: "Then what did you drink?" He said: "I only took some dates and raisins and put them in a gourd of mine." So the Messenger of God ﷺ forbade mixing dates and raisins in the gourd and the pitched vessel.'
