What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationAbū Dāwūd said: Ibrāhīm is a shaykh of Medina who does not have many hadiths. Ibn ʿAdī said: He is not well known (laysa bi-l-maʿrūf). And he said in al-Mīzān: His hadith is rejected (munkar al-ḥadīth), unknown (ghayr maʿrūf).

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationThe shaykh's statement that this prevents interpolation (idrāj) contradicts his statement in al-Iqtirāḥ that it weakens it but does not prevent it. Perhaps some who thought it was raised (marfūʿ) put it first, and advancing and delaying parts within a hadith is permissible, based on the permissibility of narrating by meaning. Al-ʿAynī, may God have mercy on him, said this.

machine translationNo one corroborates this Ibrāhīm b. Saʿīd in raising this hadith to the Prophet. A group narrated it from Nāfiʿ as the statement of Ibn ʿUmar.

machine translationḤātim b. Ismāʿīl also narrated this hadith, that is, as raised (marfūʿ), mentioning this sentence, "and the woman in ihram must not wear the face veil (niqāb)", as al-Layth narrated it.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationAl-Layth narrated it with an interpolation (mudraj).

  • Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd

machine translationThe ruling of interpolation (idrāj) in this hadith has been found problematic on two grounds: first, the prohibition of the face veil and of gloves has come separately as a raised report (marfūʿ); second, the prohibition of gloves has come at the very beginning of the hadith, attributed to the Prophet ﷺ, before the prohibition of anything else. This prevents interpolation and contradicts the well-known route.

  • ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī

machine translationThe hadith of Ibn ʿUmar: there is disagreement over whether it is raised (marfūʿ) to the Prophet ﷺ or stopped (mawqūf) at the Companion.
