Chain of narrators
- Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥīm b. al-Barqī
- Ibn Abū Maryam
- Nāfiʿ b. Yazīd
- al-Ḥārith b. Saʿīd al-ʿUtaqī
- ʿAbdullāh b. Munayn Min Banī ʿAbd Kulāl
- ʿAmr b. al-ʿĀṣ
The Prophet ﷺ taught me fifteen prostrations while reciting the Qur'an, including three in al-Mufassal and two in Surah al-Hajj. Abu Dawud said: Abu al-Darda' has reported eleven prostrations from the Prophet ﷺ, but chain of this tradition is weak.
Notes
machine translationAbū Dāwūd said: It has been narrated from Abū al-Dardāʾ, from the Prophet ﷺ, that there are eleven prostrations, but its chain of transmission is very weak (wāhin).

machine translationThis is a hadith whose narrators are Egyptians, most of whom the two Shaykhs have relied upon as proof. There is none more complete than it regarding the number of prostrations of the Quran.
in سنن أبي داود, p. 1399 - Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyá b. Sharaf al-Nawawī
machine translationAbū Dāwūd and al-Ḥākim narrated it with a good (ḥasan) chain.

machine translationA good (ḥasan) hadith.
machine translationHe declared it weak (ḍaʿīf) in his Aḥkām because of ʿAbdullāh b. Munayn, saying: ʿAbdullāh b. Munayn is not to be relied upon as proof.
in سنن أبي داود, p. 1399 - Ibn al-Qaṭṭān
machine translationAl-Ḥārith b. Saʿīd al-ʿUtaqī narrated from him, and he is the one by whom the hadith is declared defective, because he is a man whose condition is not known. Ibn Lahīʿah and Nāfiʿ b. Yazīd also narrated from him; Ibn Yūnus mentioned this in his History of Egypt. So because of him the hadith is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), even if Ibn Munayn were known.
in سنن أبي داود, p. 1399 - Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī
machine translationIn it is ʿAbdullāh b. Munayn, who is unknown (majhūl), and the one who narrates from him is al-Ḥārith b. Saʿīd al-ʿUtaqī, who is also not known. Ibn Mākūlā said: He has no hadith other than this one.
in سنن أبي داود, p. 1399 - Abū Daʾūd

machine translationAbū Dāwūd was silent about it, and that implies that it is good (ḥasan) or authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) in his view.

machine translationʿAbdullāh b. Munayn is not to be relied upon as proof.
in سنن أبي داود, p. 1399 - Ibn al-Qaṭṭān
machine translationThat is because of his being unknown (jahālah), meaning the statement of ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq: ʿAbdullāh b. Munayn is not to be relied upon as proof, for he is not known; none narrated from him except al-Ḥārith b. Saʿīd al-ʿUtaqī, and he is a man whose condition is not known. So because of him the hadith is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ).
