AbdurRahman ibn Ka'b ibn Malik said: When Ka'b ibn Malik heard the call to prayer on Friday, he prayed for As'ad ibn Zurarah. I asked him: What is the matter that when you hear the call to prayer, you pray for As'ad ibn Zurarah? He replied: This is because he held the Friday prayer for the first time for us at Hazm an-Nabit of Harrah belonging to Banu Bayadah in Naqi', called Naqi' al-Khadumat. I asked him: How many were you at that time ? He said: Forty.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translationIts chain is good and strong (ḥasan qawī), and all of its narrators are trustworthy (thiqāt).

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationHe declared it weak (ḍaʿīf) because of Muḥammad b. Isḥāq.

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationIt is from the narration of Ibn Isḥāq, and he is a concealer of defects in transmission (mudallis). In the narration of Abū Dāwūd he said "from" (ʿan), but in most of the narrations of al-Bayhaqī he said "he narrated to me" (ḥaddathanī).
