✧ The Battle of Badr

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ:
أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَعْدُ بِالْقِتَالِ فِي آيٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، فَكَانَ أَوَّلُ مَشْهَدٍ شَهِدَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَدْرًا، وَكَانَ رَأْسَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يَوْمَئِذٍ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، فَالْتَقَوْا بِبَدْرٍ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِسَبْعَ أَوْ سِتَّ عَشْرَةَ لَيْلَةً مَضَتْ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ، وَأَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثُمِائَةٍ وَبِضْعَ عَشْرَةَ رَجُلًا، وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ بَيْنَ الْأَلْفِ وَالتِّسْعِمِائَةِ، وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ يَوْمَ الْفُرْقَانِ، وَهَزَمَ اللهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، فَقُتِلَ مِنْهُمْ زِيَادَةٌ عَلَى سَبْعِينَ مُهَجٍ، وَأُسِرَ مِنْهُمْ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ " قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ: وَلَمْ يَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا إِلَّا قُرَشِيٌّ أَوْ أَنْصَارِيٌّ، أَوْ حَلِيفٌ لِأَحَدِ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ
Translation
✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was later commanded to fight in verses of the Quran. The first battle the Messenger of Allah ﷺ witnessed was Badr. The leader of the polytheists that day was 'Utbah b. Rabi'ah b. 'Abd Shams. They met at Badr on Friday, seven or sixteen nights into Ramadan. The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were three hundred and some ten men, and the polytheists were between one thousand and nine hundred. That was the day of the Criterion. Allah defeated the polytheists that day. More than seventy of them were killed, and a like number was taken captive. Al-Zuhri said: No one witnessed Badr except a Qurayshi or an Ansari or an ally of one of the two groups.
