عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ قَالَ:
سَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ الزُّهْرِيَّ فَضَحِكَ وَقَالَ: هُوَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، وَلَوْ سَأَلْتَ عَنْهُ هَؤُلَاءِ قَالُوا: عُثْمَانُ يَعْنِي بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ
Translation
✧ I asked al-Zuhri about it, and he laughed and said: "It was 'Ali b. Abi Talib. If you asked them—meaning the Umayyads—they would say: 'Uthman."
