✧ What is done with one who misappropriates booty

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي صَالِحُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ
أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ رَجُلًا يُقَالُ لَهُ زِيَادٌ يَتْبَعُ غَلًّا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فِي أَرْضِ الرُّومِ، فَاسْتُفْتِيَ فِيهِ سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَعُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَرَجَاءُ بْنُ حَيْوَةَ، فَكُلُّهُمْ أَشَارُوا: " أَنْ يُجْلَدَ جَلْدًا وَجِيعًا، وَيُجْمَعَ مَتَاعُهُ إِلَّا الْحَيَوَانَ فَيُحَرَّقُ، ثُمَّ يُخَلَّى سَبِيلُهُ فِي سَرَاوِيلِهِ، وَيُعْطَى سَيْفُهُ قَطُّ
Translation
✧ He witnessed a man named Ziyad being pursued for misappropriation in the way of Allah in the land of al-Rum. So a ruling was sought from Salim b. 'Abd Allah, 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz, and Raja' b. Haywah, and all of them advised: “That he be given a painful flogging, and his belongings—except animals—be gathered and burned, then he be let go in his trousers, and his sword be given to him alone.”
