✧ Misappropriation of booty

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ هَمَّامٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
غَزَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ: لَا يَغْزُو مَعِي مَنْ تَزَوَّجَ امْرَأَةً لَمْ يَبْنِ بِهَا، وَلَا رَجُلٌ لَهُ غَنَمٌ يَنْتَظِرُ وِلَادَهَا، وَلَا رَجُلٌ بَنَى بِنَاءً لَمْ يَفْرُغَ مِنْهُ " فَلَمَّا أَتَى الْمَكَانَ الَّذِي يُرِيدُ وَجَاءَهُ عِنْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ لِلشَّمْسِ: " إِنَّكِ مَأْمُورَةٌ وَأَنَا مَأْمُورٌ، اللَّهُمَّ احْبِسْهَا عَلَيَّ سَاعَةً " فَحَبَسَهَا اللهُ عَلَيْهِ سَاعَةً، ثُمَّ فَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ وُضِعَتِ الْغَنِيمَةُ فَجَاءَتِ النَّارُ، فَلَمْ تَأْكُلْهَا فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ فِيكُمْ غُلُولًا، فَلْيُبَايِعْنِي مِنْ كُلِّ قَبِيلَةٍ رَجُلٌ " قَالَ: فَلَصِقَتْ يَدُهُ بِيَدِ رَجُلَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٍ. فَقَالَ: إِنَّ فِيكُمُ الْغُلُولَ قَالَ: فَأَخْرَجُوا مِثْلَ رَأْسِ بَقَرَةٍ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَأَلْقَوْهُ فِي الْغَنِيمَةِ، ثُمَّ جَاءَتِ النَّارُ فَأَكَلَتْهَا قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " لَمْ تَحِلَّ لِأَحَدٍ قَبْلَنَا، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى رَأَى ضَعْفَنَا فَطَيَّبَهَا لَنَا
Translation
✧ A prophet among the prophets went on a military expedition and said: “No one who has married a woman and not yet consummated the marriage shall go with me, nor a man who has sheep awaiting their offspring, nor a man who has built a building and not yet finished it.” When he reached the place he intended, the time of ‘Asr came, and he said to the sun: “You are commanded, and I am commanded. O God, hold it back for me for a while.” So God held it back for him for a while. Then God granted him victory. Then the booty was placed, and fire came but did not consume it. He said: “There is misappropriation among you, so let one man from each tribe pledge allegiance to me.” He said: His hand stuck to the hands of two or three men. He said: “The misappropriation is among you.” He said: So they brought out something like the head of a cow made of gold and threw it into the booty. Then the fire came and consumed it. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “It was not lawful for anyone before us, and that is because God Almighty saw our weakness and made it good for us.”
