✧ khums and the share of the relatives

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ:
كَانَ سَهْمُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يُدْعَى الصَّفِيَّ، إِنْ شَاءَ عَبْدًا، وَإِنْ شَاءَ فَرَسًا، يَخْتَارُهُ قَبْلَ الْخُمُسِ، وَيُضْرَبُ لَهُ سَهْمُهُ، إِنْ شَهِدَ وَإِنْ غَابَ، وَكَانَتْ صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيٍّ مِنَ الصَّفِيِّ ".
Translation
✧ The share of the Prophet ﷺ was called the safiyy. If he wished, it could be a slave, or if he wished, a horse. He would select it before the fifth, and a share would be allotted for him whether he was present or absent. Safiyya bt. Huyayy was among the safiyy.
