Translation
✧ Al-Ahwaz was conquered while their commander was Abu Musa or someone else. He summoned Majza'ah or Shaqiq b. Thawr — Abu Bakr was uncertain — and said: 'Find me a man from your people whom I can send on an expedition.' He said: 'If this matter you intend is good, I would not like anyone from my people to beat me to it; and if it is otherwise, I would not like to cause anyone from my people to fall into it. So send me.' He said: 'We have been guided to an underground passage through which one can enter the city.' So he sent him with some people — I think he also said — and al-Bara' b. Malik was over them. Majza'ah or Shaqiq entered the passage, and when he came out they threw a rock at him and killed him. Then the people entered until they became many, and Allah granted them victory. He said: We heard that he was a young man of twenty years.
