عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ:
بَارَزَ الْبَرَاءُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ أَخُو أَنَسٍ مَرْزُبَانَ الزَّأْرَةِ فَقَتَلَهُ، وَأَخَذَ سَلَبَهُ، فَبَلَغَ سَلَبُهُ ثَلَاثِينَ أَلْفًا فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَقَالَ لِأَبِي طَلْحَةَ: إِنَّا كُنَّا لَا نُخَمِّسُ السَّلَبَ، وَإِنَّ سَلَبَ الْبَرَاءِ قَدْ بَلَغَ مَالًا كَثِيرًا، وَلَا أُرَانِي إِلَّا خَامِسَهُ
Translation
✧ Al-Bara' b. Malik, the brother of Anas, fought in single combat with Marzuban al-Za'rah and killed him, taking his spoils. His spoils reached thirty thousand. This reached Umar b. al-Khattab, who said to Abu Talhah: 'We used not to take a fifth of the spoils of single combat, but the spoils of al-Bara' have reached a great amount of wealth, and I think I will take a fifth of it.'
