✧ Killing the polytheists by captivation and ransoming captives

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، يَعْنِي عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ قَالَ:
نَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يُخَيِّرُكَ إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَقْتُلَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْأُسَارَى، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تُفَادِيَ بِهِمْ، وَتَقْتُلَ مِنْ أَصَحَابِكَ مِثْلَهُمْ، فَاسْتَشَارَ أَصْحَابَهُ فَقَالُوا: نُفَادِيهِمْ، وَنَتَقَوَّى بِهِمْ، وَيُكْرِمُ اللهُ بِالشَّهَادَةِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ
Translation
✧ Gabriel ﷺ descended upon the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Badr and said: 'Your Lord gives you the choice: if you wish, kill these captives; if you wish, ransom them—and a like number of your companions will be killed.' He consulted his companions, and they said: 'We will ransom them, gain strength from them, and God will honor with martyrdom whomever He wills.'
