✧ Touching Outside of Circumambulation, and Whether One May Touch Without Being in a State of Ablution

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَتِيقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بَابَيْهِ، عَنْ بَعْضِ بَنِي يَعْلَى، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ قَالَ:
طُفْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ، فَاسْتَلَمَ الرُّكْنَ، فَكُنْتُ مِمَّا يَلِي الْبَيْتَ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغْنَا الرُّكْنَ الْغَرْبِيَّ الَّذِي يَلِي الْأَسْوَدَ جَرَرْتُ يَدَهُ لِأَنْ يَسْتَلِمَ قَالَ: " مَا شَأْنُكَ ؟ " فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا تَسْتَلِمَ ؟ فَقَالَ: " أَلَمْ تَطُفْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ " قُلْتُ: بَلَى قَالَ: " فَرَأَيْتَهُ يَسْتَلِمُ هَذَيْنِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْغَرْبِيَّيْنِ ؟ " قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: " لَيْسَ لَكَ فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ ؟ " قُلْتُ: " بَلَى " قَالَ: " فَابْعُدْ عَنْكَ
Translation
✧ I circumambulated with Umar, and he touched the Corner. I was on the side closer to the House. When we reached the western corner that is next to the Black Stone, I pulled his hand so that he would touch it. He said: “What is the matter with you?” I said: “Will you not touch it?” He said: “Did you not circumambulate with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “Did you see him touch these two western corners?” I said: “No.” He said: “Do you not have in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a good example?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “Then keep away from it.”
