✧ The Domestic Donkey

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، وَأَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْهَجَرِيِّ، قَالَا: سَمِعْنَا ابْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى يَقُولُ:
أَصَبْنَا يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ حُمُرًا خَارِجَةً مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ فَنَحَرْنَاهَا قَالَ: " فَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ أَكْلِهَا، قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ: فَلَقِيتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّمَا نَهَى عَنْهَا لِأَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَأْكُلُ الْعَذِرَةَ
Translation
✧ On the day of Khaybar we captured donkeys outside the village and slaughtered them. He said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating them." Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani said: "I met Said b. Jubayr and mentioned that to him, and he said: 'He only forbade them because they used to eat dung.'"
