✧ When one finds no water

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: شَأْنُ الْمَجْدُورِ، هَلْ لَهُ رُخْصَةٌ فِي أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ ؟ وَتَلَوْتُ عَلَيْهِ: ﴿وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ مَرْضَى أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ ﴾، وَهُوَ سَاكِتٌ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى جِئْتُ، ﴿فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً ﴾قَالَ: ذَلِكَ إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدُوا مَاءً، فَإِنْ وَجَدُوا مَاءً فَلْيَتَطَهَّرُوا قَالَ: وَإِنِ احْتَلَمَ الْمَجْدُورُ وَجَبَ عَلَيْهِ الْغُسْلُ، وَاللهِ لَقَدِ احْتَلَمْتُ مَرَّةً - عَطَاءٌ الْقَائِلُ - وَأَنَا مَجْدُورٌ فَاغْتَسَلْتُ، هِيَ لَهُمْ كُلِّهِمْ إِذَا لَمْ يَجِدُوا الْمَاءَ. يَعْنِي الْآيَةَ
Translation

machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ I said to 'Ata': What about the person with smallpox, does he have an allowance not to perform ablution? I recited to him: “And if you are ill or on a journey…” while he remained silent until I reached, “then you find no water.” He said: That is when they find no water. If they find water, let them purify themselves. He said: And if the person with smallpox has a wet dream, the full bath is obligatory upon him. By God, I once had a wet dream — 'Ata' is the speaker — while I had smallpox, and I bathed. It applies to all of them when they find no water, meaning the verse.
