✧ Does one who kills game judge himself, and how should he act?

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَطَرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ لَاحِقِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ،

أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ، وَابْنَ صَفْوَانَ، وَجَاءَهُمَا رَجُلٌ أَصَابَ صَيْدًا، فَقَالَ: احْكُمَا عَلَيَّ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ، لِابْنِ صَفْوَانَ: " إِمَّا أَنْ تَقُولَ، وَأُصَدِّقُكَ، وَإِمَّا أَنْ أَقُولَ، وَتُصَدِّقُنِي "، فَقَالَ ابْنُ صَفْوَانَ: " قُلْ، وَأُصَدِّقُكَ "، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: " فِيهِ كَذَا، وَكَذَا، فَصَدَّقَهُ ابْنُ صَفْوَانَ

Translation

✧ He witnessed Ibn Umar and Ibn Safwan when a man who had caught game came to them and said: 'Judge for me.' Ibn Umar said to Ibn Safwan: "Either you speak and I will confirm you, or I speak and you confirm me." Ibn Safwan said: 'Speak, and I will confirm you.' Ibn Umar said: "For it is such-and-such," and Ibn Safwan confirmed him.
