عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي صَدَقَةُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ،
أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ سَالِمًا، وَالْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ حَجَلَةٍ ذَبَحَهَا وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ نَاسِيًا، قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ: أَحَجَلَةٌ فِي بَطْنِ الرَّجُلِ خَيْرٌ أَمْ ثُلُثَا الْمُدِّ ؟ قَالَ: " بَلْ ثُلُثَا الْمُدِّ "، قَالَ: هِيَ خَيْرٌ أَمْ نِصْفُ الْمُدِّ ؟ قَالَ: " نِصْفُ الْمُدِّ "، قَالَ: هِيَ خَيْرٌ أَمْ ثُلُثُ الْمُدِّ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُمَا: أَتُجْزِئُ عَنِّي شَاةٌ ؟ قَالَا: " أَوَ تَعْلَمُ ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَا: " فَاذْهَبْ
Translation
✧ That he asked Salim and al-Qasim b. Muhammad about a partridge that he slaughtered while at Makkah, having forgotten. One of them said to his companion: Is a partridge in a man's belly better, or two-thirds of a mudd? He said: Rather two-thirds of a mudd. He said: Is it better, or half a mudd? He said: Half a mudd. He said: Is it better, or a third of a mudd? He said: I said to them: Would a sheep suffice for me? They said: Do you know? He said: Yes. They said: Then go.
