أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ قَالَ:
جَاءَنَا أَعْرَابِيٌّ وَنَحْنُ بِالْمِرْبَدِ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ فِيكُمْ قَارِئٌ يَقْرَأُ هَذِهِ الرُّقْعَةَ ؟ قُلْنَا: كُلُّنَا نَقْرَأُ، قَالَ: فَاقْرَءُوهَا لِي، قَالَ: هَذَا كِتَابٌ كَتَبَهُ لِي مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِبَنِي زُهَيْرِ بْنِ أُقَيْشٍ، حَيٍّ مِنْ عُكْلٍ إِنَّكُمْ إِنْ شَهِدْتُمْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، وَأَقَمْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ، وَآتَيْتُمُ الزَّكَاةَ، وَأَخْرَجْتُمُ [١]الْخُمُسَ مِنَ الْغَنِيمَةِ، وَسَهْمَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَصَفِيَّهُ؛ فَإِنَّكُمْ آمِنُونَ بِأَمَانِ اللهِ "، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَتَبَ لَكُمْ هَذَا الْكِتَابَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ أَتَرَوْنِي أَكْذِبُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، وَغَضِبَ فَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى الْكِتَابِ، فَأَخَذَهُ، قَالَ: فَاتَّبَعْنَاهُ، فَقُلْنَا: حَدِّثْنَا يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ شَيْءٍ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: إِنَّ مِمَّا يُذْهِبُ كَثِيرًا مِنْ وَحَرِ الصَّدْرِ صَوْمَ شَهْرِ الصَّبْرِ، وَصَوْمَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ
Translation
✧ A bedouin came to us while we were at al-Mirbad and said: 'Is there among you a reader who can read this letter?' We said: 'We all read.' He said: 'Then read it for me.' He said: 'This is a letter Muḥammad the Messenger of God ﷺ wrote for me to Banū Zuhayr b. Uqaysh, a clan of ʿUkl: If you bear witness that there is no god but God and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of God, establish prayer, give zakāh, and give the fifth of the spoils, the Prophet's share ﷺ and his ṣafī, then you are secure with God's protection.' He said: 'We said: The Messenger of God ﷺ wrote this letter for you?' He said: 'Yes. Do you think I would lie about the Messenger of God ﷺ?' He became angry and struck his hand on the letter and took it. He said: 'We followed him and said: Tell us, O Abū ʿAbd Allāh, something you heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ.' He said: 'I heard him say: Among what removes much of the rancor of the chest is fasting the month of patience and fasting three days of every month.'
