✧ The sick person in Ramadan and his making up the fast

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: فَرَجُلٌ مَرِضَ رَمَضَانَ كُلَّهُ، ثُمَّ صَحَّ، فَلَمْ يَقْضِهِ حَتَّى مَاتَ قَالَ: " يُطْعَمُ عَنْهُ ثَلَاثُونَ مِسْكِينًا ثَلَاثِينَ مُدًّا " قُلْتُ: فَرَجُلٌ مَرِضَ رَمَضَانَ كُلَّهُ، ثُمَّ صَحَّ فَلَمْ يَقْضِهِ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَهُ رَمَضَانُ آخَرُ فَمَاتَ فِيهِ، أَوْ بَعْدَهُ قَالَ: " يُطْعَمُ عَنْهُ سِتُّونَ مِسْكِينًا سِتِّينَ مُدًّا

Translation

✧ I said to ʿAṭāʾ: What about a man who was ill for all of Ramadan, then recovered but did not make it up until he died? He said: "Thirty poor people should be fed on his behalf with thirty mudds." I said: What about a man who was ill for all of Ramadan, then recovered but did not make it up until another Ramadan came and he died during it or after it? He said: "Sixty poor people should be fed on his behalf with sixty mudds."
