✧ Breaking the fast on a cloudy day

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي زِيَادُ بْنُ عِلَاقَةَ، عَنْ بِشْرِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ:

كُنَّا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فِي رَمَضَانَ، وَالسَّمَاءُ مُغَيَّمَةٌ، فَأُتِيَ بِسَوِيقٍ وَطَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَقَالَ: مَنْ أَفْطَرَ فَلْيَقْضِ يَوْمًا مَكَانَهُ

Translation

✧ We were with 'Umar b. al-Khattab in Ramadan, and the sky was cloudy. Some sawiq was brought, and the sun appeared. He said: 'Whoever has broken his fast, let him make up a day in its place.'
