✧ The chaining of devils and the virtue of Ramadan

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ عَرْفَجَةَ قَالَ:

كُنَّا نَذْكُرُ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ فَقَالَ عُتْبَةُ بْنُ فَرْقَدٍ: مَاذَا تَذْكُرُونَ ؟ قَالَ: كُنَّا نَذْكُرُ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: تُفَتَّحُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ الْجَنَّةِ، وَتُغَلَّقُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ النَّارِ، وَتُغَلُّ فِيهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ، وَيُنَادِي فِيهِ مُنَادٍ فِي كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ يَا بَاغِيَ الْخَيْرِ هَلُمَّ، وَيَا بَاغِيَ الشَّرِّ أَقْصِرْ

Translation

✧ We were mentioning the month of Ramadan. 'Utbah b. Farqad said: 'What are you mentioning?' He said: 'We were mentioning the month of Ramadan.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "In it the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, the devils are chained, and a caller calls out every night: 'O seeker of good, come forward; O seeker of evil, desist.'"'
