✧ A Woman's Charity Without Her Husband's Permission

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ شُرَحْبِيلَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَامَ حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ: " إِنَّ اللهَ أَعْطَى كُلَّ ذِي حَقٍّ حَقَّهُ فَلَا وَصِيَّةَ لِوَارِثٍ، الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ، وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللهِ، مَنِ ادَّعَى غَيْرَ أَبِيهِ، وَتَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ التَّابِعَةُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَلَا تُنْفِقَنَّ الْمَرْأَةُ شَيْئًا مِنْ بَيْتِهَا إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ زَوْجِهَا "، قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَلَا الطَّعَامُ ؟ قَالَ: " ذَلِكَ أَفْضَلُ أَمْوَالِنَا "، قَالَ: ثُمَّ قَالَ: " الْعَارِيَةُ مُؤَدَّاةٌ، وَالْمَنِيحَةُ مَرْدُودَةٌ، وَالدَّيْنُ يُقْضَى، وَالزَّعِيمُ غَارِمٌ
Translation
✧ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say in the year of the Farewell Pilgrimage: “Allah has given every possessor of a right his right, so there is no bequest for an heir. The child belongs to the bed, and the stone belongs to the fornicator, and their reckoning is with Allah. Whoever claims descent from other than his father or allies himself with other than his patrons, upon him is the curse of Allah, continuing until the Day of Resurrection. And let no woman spend anything from his house except with her husband's permission.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah, not even food?” He said: “That is the best of our wealth.” Then he said: “The borrowed item is to be returned, the gift (manīḥah) is to be given back, the debt is to be paid, and the guarantor is liable.”
