✧ Give Its Due on the Day of Its Harvest

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ
فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ: ﴿وَآتُوا حَقَّهُ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهِ ﴾قَالَ: " عِنْدَ الزَّرْعِ يُعْطِي الْقَبْصَ، وَعِنْدَ الصِّرَامِ يُعْطِي الْقَبْضَ، وَيَتْرُكُهُمْ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَثَرَ الصِّرَامِ " قُلْتُ: مَا الْقَبْضُ ؟ قَالَ: " قَبْضَةٌ مِنْ سُنْبُلٍ "، قُلْنَا: مَا الْقَبْصُ ؟ قَالَ: " إِذَا زَرَعْتَ تُعْطِيهِمْ مِنَ الصَّبِيبِ بِأَطْرَافِ أَصَابِعِكَ، وَأَشَارَ بِهَا
Translation
✧ About the saying of Allah: "And give its due on the day of its harvest," he said: "At the time of sowing he gives a qabs, and at the time of harvest he gives a qabd, and he leaves them to follow the traces of the harvest." I said: What is qabd? He said: "A handful of ears of grain." We said: What is qabs? He said: "When you sow, you give them from the seed with the tips of your fingers," and he gestured with them.
