✧ The Collector of the Prophet ﷺ

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ،
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بَعَثَ حَيَاتَهُ جَمِيعًا رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ خَارِصًا، يُقَالُ لَهُ: عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ التَّيِّهَانِ أَبُو الْهَيْثَمِ، حَتَّى إِذَا مَاتَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بَعَثَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَأَبَى، فَقَالَ: " قَدْ كُنْتَ تَخْرُصُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ " قَالَ: كُنْتُ أَفْعَلُ، ثُمَّ آتِي فَيَسْتَغْفِرُ لِي، فَمَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِي الْآنَ ؟ فَبَعَثَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَجُلًا غَيْرَهُ
Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ sent, for the entirety of his life, a man from the Anṣār as an estimator, called ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Tayyihān Abū al-Haytham. When the Prophet ﷺ died, Abū Bakr sent for him, but he refused and said: "You used to estimate for the Prophet ﷺ." He said: I used to do so, then I would come and he would seek forgiveness for me. Who will seek forgiveness for me now? So Abū Bakr sent another man.
