عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، يُخْبِرُنَا وَنَحْنُ مَعَ عَطَاءٍ
أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ كَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ الْعَطَاءُ يَخْطُبُ فَيَقُولُ: " مَنْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ فَلْيَقْضِهِ ثُمَّ لِيُزَكِّ مَالَهُ فَقَالَ لِي عَطَاءٌ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ: " لَعَمْرِي مَا فِي مَالِ الرَّجُلِ - وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ - صَدَقَةٌ فِيهِ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ: " فَإِذَا زَكَّوْا عَطَاءَ الرَّجُلِ بَعْدَ دَيْنِهِ، فَلَمْ يَظْلِمْ سَيِّدُ الْعَطَاءِ " قُلْتُ لَهُ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَيَّ دَيْنٌ، وَلِي مَالٌ، وَلِي مِنَ الرَّقِيقِ مَا يُقِلُّ عَلَيَّ مِنَ الدَّيْنِ أُزَكِّي عَنِّي ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ
Translation
✧ When the stipend was distributed, Uthman would give a sermon and say: 'Whoever owes a debt, let him pay it off, then pay zakat on his wealth.' Ata' then said to me: 'By my life, there is no zakat due on a man's wealth while he owes a debt.' Ata' said: 'If they pay zakat on a man's stipend after his debt, then the master of the stipend has not wronged anyone.' I said to him: 'What do you think if I owe a debt, and I have wealth, and I have slaves that would reduce the debt for me—should I pay zakat on my behalf?' He said: 'Yes.'
